Gary S. Hurvitz offers clients a practical perspective on legal issues that he honed over the past 47 years of experience spent at the intersection of business and law. Beginning his career as an Attorney/Advisor for the Cable Television Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission, he then became the General Counsel and VP, Regulatory Affairs for a leading multidisciplinary management consulting firm specializing in telecommunications. His clients included major cable television companies, as well as many municipal governments dealing with the emergence of cable communications, including Boston, Chicago, and Tampa.

In 1986, he joined Eric Meyers in owning and managing a group of companies active in the financial services industry known as The Capital Financial Group, including H. Beck, Inc., a national securities broker-dealer and registered investment advisor. In 2008, the companies were sold to a leading insurance company, but he stayed in management of the companies as Senior VP, General Counsel and a member of the Boards of Directors until he retired from his executive positions in 2013. The Capital Financial Group/H. Beck by then had grown to a network of over 850 advisors and annual revenues of over $110 million.

In his 27 years as Chief Legal Officer for the companies, Gary was responsible for all legal matters for this highly regulated business, including litigation, contracting, and regulatory affairs. He advised the firm’s field force on the legal aspects of investments, financial and estate planning. Gary is widely respected for his successful handling of many arbitrations and other securities-related litigation.

Gary and his wife Laurie reside in Bethesda, Maryland. As empty-nesters, they are proud of their two children; their daughter who is an Assistant Professor and attending physician in OB/GYN at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, and their son who is employed in DC as a VP for a national commercial real estate company.
